January 2026 – Share Editorial
Happy New Year to everyone! May I begin with huge gratitude for our outgoing Share Editor who has completed six years of sterling work on the Share Subcommittee! A heartfelt thank you for her dedicated service and commitment. At times, she has worn multiple hats covering Assistant Editor and Editor roles simultaneously as well as training new people within the team. Design changes and updates have been implemented with flair, and I know I am stepping into big shoes here! It certainly feels a little nerve-wracking to be flying solo from this point on! I have loved Share magazine since my early sobriety and hope I can continue the excellent work of my predecessor.
You may notice that this month’s Share title, ‘A MOMENT OF CLARITY’, matches our Fellowship Calendar. This theme will run throughout 2026, I hope you find the ‘AA’ link appealing. Looking back, it was certainly a moment of clarity for me when I told my sister I was terrified of where my drinking was taking me. I didn’t recognise it as an admission of powerlessness at the time, but it was my cry for help. She sent me to my first AA meeting the next day and I have not taken a drink since. In my experience, a very thorough Step One becomes an excellent defence against the first drink. It provides complete knowledge of the problem for me every day. Step One is so important for the newcomer, please suggest purchasing extra copies of this January issue for your group to give away to newcomers throughout the year.
Tradition One reminds me to look at whether I am behaving in ways that put our common welfare first. There are still perhaps a few sharp corners in my attitude which would benefit from smoothing out! I will always need AA more than it needs me, and I know I must commit to the ‘unity’ element of our recovery triangle. Wishing you all a joyful 2026!
