LGBT Voices Working Group

A working group has been set up after the AA Conference 2024, to revise/rewrite the leaflet ‘LGBT Voices’ to help incorporate the whole of the LGBTQIA+ community as part of the work being done on inclusivity in AA.

It is a great opportunity for you to support the LGBTQIA+ community locally, nationally and internationally, by helping to share the experience, strength and hope specifically about anyone you, or anyone you know who might identify as part of it!

To help get you thinking, we’ve listed a few thoughts of our own, that as individuals we know we would benefit from reading about, from the perspective of other LGBTQIA+ people in relation to their use of alcohol, seeking recovery, and their lives now.

  • Life before members came to AA and drinking experiences for identification.
  • What life was like, what happened and what it’s like now.
  • Were there any fears of losing LGBTQIA+ identity?
  • God, AA and being LGBTQIA+
  • Were AA people like you?
  • Making the programme work for you.
  • Is there life in sobriety for LGBTQIA+ members through AA?
  • Living life on life’s terms for LGBTQIA+ people.

Whether you’re new to AA or got a few years under your belt – your VOICE and help matter and it matters even more to be of service to other people. You don’t need to write like a novelist – we want you to write from your HEART and say it as it was and is now, for you.

How do I get involved?

Please write your story – about 800 to 1000 words – then email it to Jane C, the Chair of the working group, at [email protected]
