Editorial
Welcome to the May edition of Roundabout. This month’s theme is Steps Four and Five, and as I write this I’m thinking back to my own experience of these life-changing Steps. Why were they life-changing for me? I think it was because I was introduced to a new way of looking at my life. I thought I would simply have to write a shopping list of all the terrible things I’d said and done as a performing alcoholic, and then tell my sponsor why I had been ‘made’ to do them. Poor victim me. Instead, I was asked to look at my life differently. What was my part in all of this? How had my defects of character contributed to and shaped these events? The 12 and 12 calls it the “searchlight of Step Four” and suddenly I found the searchlight was on me, not on the other people, places and things. Looking at life differently is a challenge and not always a pleasant one, but as we are reminded in AA, we are not alone. I hope you find fellowship and a helping hand in this month’s issue.
