Welcome to our first issue of 2025 and you may be here reading your first ever Roundabout, you may have just been to your first AA meeting or you may have been around the ‘rooms’ a while now - thank you for joining us!
There are 12 Steps in the Programme of Recovery and as I have heard old-timers say “They are in an order for a reason” - start at Step One. It was some time before I fully ‘heard’ the whole of this Step. I knew I was powerless over alcohol, but had not realised there was another bit to it “that our lives had become unmanageable.” I can still remember the meeting I was at when I fully understood it, my whole life had been and mostly was at that point, unmanageable! I stopped maturing when I started drinking. I was not able to manage money, keep a home clean and stocked with food. I could not be relied upon for anything and certainly did not act responsibly for my age. I didn’t come into AA for any of these reasons but slowly over time, I became an adult and the person I should be.
Do what many have done before you - get a sponsor and start at Step One. As many of articles in this issue suggest - your life could just change for the better!
