Find a meeting

My life is gradually getting better

I believe I’m one of the very fortunate people. I first started to attend meetings in 2007, that is all I did, then after three years I stopped going – deciding I could stay sober on my own and becoming very active in my local church.

In 2018, after 11 years of being what I now know, a dry drunk, I picked up drink again. There was no honeymoon period, I very rapidly went downhill. I left my job, my second husband and my family. I hit self destruct. The next three years were pure hell. I found myself in police cells, going through court cases, I had rent arrears and trouble paying my bills. I was homeless and lonely and had four visits to a psychiatric hospital. I rejected any help that was offered to me.

During my last visit to the hospital I met a man who was in the Fellowship and I remembered how good my life had been. That was in 2020 and I have not had a drink since. It was another one and a half years before I walked back into the rooms as I had stopped drinking but my life was still unmanageable.

Due to the Fellowship and people I now class as friends, my life is gradually getting better.

I am doing what was suggested and attending meetings on a regular basis. I have a sponsor and have just completed Steps One to Five. I love my AA life and the design for living it has given me.

My family are all back in my life and I am a responsible parent and grannie.

I am so grateful to have been given a second chance at life.

Here but for the grace of God go I.

Jean
