The Pink Cloud and After - a surprisingly tricky theme to write to. As I listened in meetings to people sharing on this topic, I used to feel uncomfortable. Did I have a pink cloud? Was it the right kind of pink cloud? Was your pink cloud better than my pink cloud?
As my brain cleared I realised this thinking is one of those bits of nonsense I could leave behind. Comparisons with the experiences of others lead nowhere except downwards. We are all unique. The experience of those early days of sobriety is equally unique for everyone. What’s important, whether I had a pink cloud or just the usual variety, is it leads onwards to another sober day, and then another.
There’s a lovely expression I heard once: “It’s never too late to have a happy childhood.” I think it means we can change the world around us as we change ourselves. Perhaps it’s also never too late to have a pink cloud if you want one.
