Together we can

THE most crucial thing I have learned about Step One is the first word “we”, I can’t possibly do this Programme on my own, I need my Higher Power, my sponsor, my friends in the Fellowship etc. There are also other facets to working my Programme which are part of the complete package.

I have been in the Fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous for nearly 23 years, have been sober for fairly lengthy periods of time then relapsed. I have now been sober for just over nine years continuously.

In the past, my unmanageability manifested in many ways: getting arrested, jail, institutions, homelessness – as it says in our literature, “…Terror, Bewilderment, Frustration, Despair.” (BB p.151) Now, my present and future looks brighter, I have peace of mind mostly, freedom, somewhere nice to live etc. I do volunteer at my church and the food bank, also with a view to working with a homeless charity. My freedom from alcohol is a daily reprieve dependent on my spiritual condition.
