Are You Looking for Help with Your Own Drinking?

If you are concerned about your drinking and think you may need help, please contact the free Alcoholics Anonymous helpline on 0800 917 7650 or email [email protected].

This page is for organisations and professionals who would like to understand more about Alcoholics Anonymous and how AA may help the people they work with.

Helping People Find AA

People with a drinking problem can be found in every part of our community. They may come into contact with local organisations, charities, public services or community groups without knowing that help from Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is available.

Alcoholics Anonymous has regular meetings across Wiltshire and Bath, with help also available by telephone and online.

You do not need to be an expert in alcoholism to help someone find AA. Simply knowing what Alcoholics Anonymous is and how someone can make contact means you can provide accurate information when it may be needed.

What Is Alcoholics Anonymous?

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of people who have recovered from alcoholism and help each other to live without alcohol.

AA members share their own experiences of alcoholism and recovery, offering hope and support to others who want to stop drinking. Meetings provide an opportunity to hear from people who understand the challenges of alcoholism because they have experienced them themselves.

AA is based on one alcoholic helping another. It is not a professional treatment service or a replacement for medical care, counselling or other specialist support. Instead, AA offers support through the shared experience of its members.

The only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for membership.

Helping You Help Others

Someone does not need a professional referral to attend AA. They can contact AA directly whenever they decide they want help.

Help is available 24 hours a day, and meetings take place regularly in local communities as well as online.

For organisations and groups that work with the public, understanding what AA offers means you can confidently direct someone towards the support available.

We can also provide AA contact information, local meeting details, posters and literature to help make that information readily available within your organisation.

Helping Your Organisation Understand AA

Our Public Information Liaison Officer works with community organisations, charities, public bodies and local groups across Wiltshire and Bath to raise awareness of Alcoholics Anonymous and the support available.

The Liaison Officer can provide information and literature, answer questions about AA and arrange talks or presentations for your team or organisation.

We can also attend community meetings and events to explain more about AA and how people can access support through Alcoholics Anonymous.

This is a free service: There is no charge for talks, visits or information provided by Alcoholics Anonymous.
