The Borders & East Lothian Intergroup aims to:

• Support our Groups in the common purpose of carrying the AA message to the still suffering alcoholic.
• Develop and maintain good relations across our local community through the legacies of unity, service and recovery.

AA BELI hold business meetings six times a year, normally at 10am on the first Sunday in January (incorporating the AGM), March, May, July, September and November.

Each Group is encouraged to send along a Group Service Representative (GSR) however any AA member is very welcome to attend as an observer (probably worth checking the meeting date first with either your GSR or by emailing the Intergroup Secretary at [email protected])

The Chair has the responsibility of convening and conducting our Intergroup meetings.

The treasurer is responsible for looking after the intergroup financial affairs, including the 7th tradition and Public Liability Insurance

The secretary is responsible for circulating the Agenda and taking the minutes during the intergroup meeting, editing the content and sharing them with the chair and intergroup participants, including GSRs and service officers.

The Health Liaison Officer is responsible for liaison with healthcare professionals and treatment centres. The sole objective is to help the suffering alcoholic. Volunteers to help with this work are always welcome.

The Telephone Liaison Officer co-ordinates the working of the area Telephone Helpline Service, including manning the telephone lines and 12 step resource. Please email them if you would like to know more about volunteering for the Helpline or as a 12 Stepper.

The Conventions Liaison Officer chairs the convention committee which organises and runs the BELI Annual One Day Convention. Volunteers to help on the committee or at the Convention are always welcome.

The Schools Liaison Officer has the responsibility of getting the message about AA to young people at secondary schools in the area. BELI have a team in place to deliver schools talks. Our Regional Representatives are members of Intergroup who represent BELI at AA Regional Meetings. They are the bridge between Intergroup and Region, reporting back to Intergroup and enhancing communication between Groups, Intergroup, and region.

The Safeguarding Liaison Officer acts as a central point of contact within the BELI area for advice and support regarding the Fellowship Guidelines on Safeguarding and Personal Conduct (as detailed in the AA Structure Handbook)

The Young Person’s Liaison Officer is a contact and conduit for young newcomers with a desire to stop drinking. They receive and answer referred email enquiries about AA from young people and encourage younger members of AA to get involved in all aspects of service.
