HISTORY OF THE GLASGOW SOUTH INTERGROUP

In 1993 there were eight intergroups in Glasgow Region. Service positions were becoming difficult to fill. The region created a steering committee to explore avenues by which the situation could be improved. The south of Glasgow was serviced by two intergroups at that time – Glasgow South West and Glasgow South East.

After meetings with all concerned parties, it became the consensus of the committee that amalgamation was the way forward.

Eventually on the 15th April 1993 at a meeting in the Pearce Institute (Govan) it was unanimously decided to amalgamate these two Glasgow intergroups and so Glasgow South Intergroup was formed.

The first meeting of the new Glasgow South Intergroup was assembled in The Langside Halls (Shawlands) on Tuesday 1st June 1993.

At the present time (2017) there are approximately eighty constituent groups in South Intergroup. The re-organisation has enabled the AA message to be carried to schools, hospitals, courts, social services, armed Services, various industries and many more places where the message is needed.
