AA Prison Service – Foston Hall (Women's Prison)

AA carries the message of recovery into HMP Foston Hall by providing a regular Alcoholics Anonymous meeting for women in the prison. The meeting offers a safe and supportive environment where women can hear about the AA programme, share their experiences and learn that recovery from alcoholism is possible. Around ten women currently attend each week, with a waiting list of others wishing to join.

We also run a Step Workshop following the regular meeting for women who want to work through the Twelve Steps in more depth.

We are always looking for AA members who would be willing to come into Foston Hall and give a 20–25 minute main share, sharing their experience, strength and hope with the women. You do not need to make a regular commitment — even coming in occasionally to share can help us carry the AA message to those inside.

AA Prison Service – HMP Dovegate (Men's Prison)

At HMP Dovegate, AA meetings are held on Wednesdays and take place on both the main prison wing and the Vulnerable Prisoners (VP) wing on alternate weeks. For some men, this may be their first introduction to Alcoholics Anonymous and to the possibility of finding a solution to their alcoholism. AA members from outside the prison attend to share their experience, strength and hope and to show that a different way of life is possible.

Prison service is extremely rewarding, and we are always grateful for AA members who are willing to help carry the message. Even attending occasionally to give a main share can make a real difference. Anyone interested in becoming involved in prison service or finding out more is very welcome to get in touch.
