Editorial November 2017
We've reached November now and sunny days and bright warm nights are gone for the time being. We're starting to experience frosty mornings, the clocks have gone back an hour and it's much colder and darker by very early evening.
This seasonal change affects each and every one of us whether within or outwith the Fellowship. Whereas those of us in AA had been, until now, in the routine of coming home from work or whatever else filled our day and thereafter going out again in the evening to a meeting, we can now be seduced by the warmth of the family home, the comfortable armchair and television for the rest of the evening.
November, though, is also the time when all the commercial hype surrounding Christmas and New Year is really ramped up. Every newspaper and every local radio station is telling us it's now time to book our work's night out or our office party. The supermarkets are undercutting one another in the booze price battles. Eat, drink and be merry, we are told. It's what it is all about. That's what we should be doing. This is the message which will relentlessly play until the end of December.
Never underestimate the power of advertising on this scale. If ever there is a time to increase our meetings then this is it! Even if you consider yourself 'long enough around' to cope with this then please consider the newer members and the younger in sobriety among us. At this time of year they really need your example and your experience. Please be there for them.
