Service Opportunities
Overview
This page aims to provide an overview of service opportunities available within the Potteries and District Intergroup.
Alcoholics Anonymous is more than a set of principles; it is a Fellowship of alcoholics in action. Service is at the centre of every AA concept and activity. It is as fundamental to AA as abstinence is to sobriety. Without this giving of oneself to another, there would be no Fellowship.
If you would like to be added to the Intergroup WhatsApp community, so that you can hear more about different service opportunities as they arise, please contact either ecomm.pdistrict@aamail.org or chair.pdistrict@aamail.org
Edward Myers Detox
We hold weekly meetings at the Edward Myers Detox Unit, carrying the message of recovery to the residents there. If you are interested in this then please contact Jeff on chair.pdistrict@aamail.org
There is no minimum sobriety requirement.
There is also a lot of health service ongoing, including; contacting GP’s, and local health officials and much more! If you would like further information on how to get involved, please contact Jo on health.pdistrict@aamail.org
Telephone Responders are the first point of contact for many newcomers to the fellowship. They give an introduction to Alcoholics Anonymous and then pass the details over to a 12 step responder local to the newcomer.
If you are interested in being a telephone responder, please contact our Telephone Liaison Officer Sam on telephones.pdistrict@aamail.org
Full Training will be given.
The suggested sobriety requirement is 1 year.
Potteries and District Intergroup currently arranges meetings within 2 prisons in our area, Stafford (Men’s) and Drake Hall (Women’s). Meetings are held fortnightly on alternate weeks within each prison.
Members of the fellowship attend meetings in the prisons to share their experience, strength and hope. You are able to attend 3 meetings within a year without any requirement of DBS check.
If you are interested in carrying the message of AA and recovery into Prisons in our area, please contact Donna on prisons.pdistrict@aamail.org.
The suggested sobriety requirement is 1 year
There is also a requirement to have a form of photo ID e.g. passport or drivers license.
We currently hold weekly meetings at Wharflane House, a recovery focused approved premises, on Thursday Evenings
If you are interested in carrying the message of recovery and AA to the residents there, please contact Jane on probation.pdistrict@aamail.org
There is no minimum sobriety requirement.
12-Step Responder
There is a 12 Step List, which holds the details of all members of the fellowship who would be willing to make a 12 Step Call within our intergroup.
The more people we have on the 12 step list, the more likely we are to have people who are local to the newcomer, and can help them start their recovery.
If you are interested in becoming a 12 step responder please contact Sam on telephones.pdistrict@aamail.org who will be able to give you more information.
The following link is available with hints and suggestions for 12 steppers.
