Resources for new GSRs

So you're the new GSR...

Congratulations on your appointment and welcome to London South Intergroup!

This page will provide you will useful information to get you started in your new role and advise members of your home group appropriately.

Everything is moving online these days and we’ve provided download links to documents where we can. You can still order hard copies of literature from York if you wish.

First of all: register yourself as GSR of your group with the general service office (link below).

Please feel free to ask me about anything you are unsure of. Good luck.

This is recommended for AA GSOs and integroup service members so that you can pass on all your email to the next holder of the position, and to separate personal and AA correspondence.

Set it up here.

This is now an online process and the link is below. You will need to register the change of GSR so GSO can send you correspondence and regular copies of Service News.

There are a number of publications available describing the structure of AA service and the responsibilities of various service positions. You’ll be asked questions about this more than you might think.

We’ve provided a link to the AA Uk Service Handbook below. I would also recommend familiarising yourself with the various group service positions but also intergroup structure as set out in the AA Service Structure and The AA Group publications.

Your meeting may already have safeguarding representatives. If not, then you may occasionally have to field concerns about other fellows’ behaviour. This is a sensitive area. While newcomers are often considered vulnerable, there are those of us who have been around for some time who may still be at risk from others.

If you have concerns about safeguarding, you can contact our safeguarding rep Sophie on 07503742761.

In terms of minors, the guidance below states: “Consideration should be given to laws protecting minors where best practice is for written parental or guardian consent to be obtained. It should also be understood that minors do have the right to make their own informed decisions.”
