A Brief History AA In Hull And Our Region
Our archivist has collated the folowing tmeline showing the growth of AA within our region
AA was first registered in Hull on 13 September 1956 at Holy Trinity Church Hall, Market Place, with Herbert being a founder member. Jean H, a businesswoman from Hull, joined a year later having been part of the Leeds ‘Bakery’ Group since 17 November 1955. On 19 September 1957, the group staged an Open Meeting at the Regal Cinema, Paragon Square. The guest speaker was Dr Pullar-Strecker, Editor of the International Journal on Alcoholism.

1960 Friends Meeting House, Percy Street Tuesday Meeting established, followed in
1967 by Pashby House, James Reckitt Avenue, Friday Meeting.
1967 also saw meetings in Grimsby on Mondays, and in Goole on Mondays.
1968 saw the arrangement by counties with meetings in Grimsby, Scunthorpe, and a Hull Prison Group was added. Bridlington and Goole also had meetings.
1970 saw meetings at The Merchant Navy House on Mondays and Wednesdays.
1971 added a meeting at Everthorpe Borstal, and the Presbyterian Church, Baker Street on Sundays, and the Church Hall on Tuesdays.
1975 lists meetings under: HUMBERSIDE and a Walkington Meeting was added at Broadgates Hospital on Thursdays, along with the above meetings.
1976/77 added meetings at William Booth Hostel and Immingham.
1979 saw three meetings weekly in Grimsby.
1984 added a Hull Wednesday Meeting at St Michaels OPE and a Thursday 12×12 at the Muriel Wilson Centre, Arcon Drive, in 1986 St Michaels added Sundays
1987 saw four meetings in Grimsby, and in Hull, a Monday meeting at Newland Methodist Church, and on Saturday, Wellington Lane.
1988 saw five meetings in Grimsby, and a Sunday meeting at Stepney Lane.
1990 had eight weekly meetings in Hull, with the addition of Monday Kingston General, Wednesday DART 20, Albion Street and Stepney moved to Saturdays.
1991 saw the start of the Cottingham Meeting at the Darby & Joan Club
1992 Driffield Wednesday at the Day Centre was added; Healing (near Grimsby was also included, DART moved to Tuesdays, and Ings Road on Wednesdays.
1997 listings were under the heading: NORTH EAST REGION
1998 saw the addition of Monday Beverley Latimer and Thursday Samman Road meetings, Cottingham had moved to Hallgate Methodist Church and Driffield had meetings on Sundays and Wednesdays at the Alfred Bean Hospital
1999 Withernsea started meeting at Withernsea Hospital; Hull Sunday and Monday meetings were at the MIND Centre, Wright Street, Tuesday and Wednesday were at the Icehouse, Stepney Lane was on Tuesdays, and Wednesdays were at Buckingham Street, Thursday 12×12 had moved to Derringham Bank, a Friday meeting was at Newbridges, and a Saturday meeting was at Bevan House.
2000 YORKSHIRE & EAST AREA Listing of Beverley, Bridlington, Cottingham, Driffield, Healing, Hornsea, Hull (9) and Withernsea meetings.
2001 The Sunday meeting moved into the St Charles Centre, Charles Street and Monday began meeting at the Drug and Alcohol Advice, Wright Street.
2003 A Monday Newbridges Meeting was listed. Second edition: Monday Meeting had moved to St Charles Centre, as had the Tuesday Meeting.
2005 the Thursday 12×12 had moved to the Gipsyville Centre, Hessle Road.
2006 the Saturday Big Book Meeting had also moved to St Charles Centre.
2007 the Thursday 12×12 had moved to Corpus Christi Church, Spring Bank West.
2007/8 the Bridlington Friday Meeting was at the Catholic Church.
2009/10 the Beverley Thursday Meeting had moved to Toll Gavel Methodist Church.
2010/11 the Tuesday Meeting was at Holderness Road Methodist Church.
2011/12 the Saturday Meeting was at the Late Night Pharmacy, Witham, and the Sunday Meeting had moved to the Unitarian Church, Park Street; Withernsea had two meetings: the Hospital on Wednesdays and Whitehorn Avenue on Mondays.
2012/13 Goole was meeting at the Salvation Army; Bridlington had Mon and Fri. in Hull Wednesday Endike Meeting was listed, and a Tuesday Late Night Pharmacy.
2013/14 There was am 07.30 Saturday Meeting at the City Life Café.
2016/17 listed the Brigg Monday Meeting and Brough Thursday Petuaria Centre, the Hull Monday 11th Step Meeting was at Corpus Christi Church, and a Tuesday Meeting was held at The Crossings; Pocklington met at the Methodist Church.
2017/18 Goole Wednesday was at Trinity Church; in Hull Tuesday Meeting was at Renew and a Thursday Meeting was at The Octagon, Walker Street.
2019 The Hull Monday Meeting was at Renew
2020 The Thursday 12×12 Meeting had moved to the Quakers in Bean Street.
