EDITORIAL DECEMBER 2018

Audio Version

"Pass It On." Our headline for this month and our cover picture showing the thumbed over Third Edition Big Book of a Sponsor and the brand new, full of Experience, Strength and Hope copy of the Fourth Edition for the newcomer. Add to that some quiet space and a big pot of coffee. We ask the newcomer for their permission for us to take them through the Twelve Steps and are they open minded and willing to hear about a sober way of living life?

For many of us in the Fellowship this is a very special moment. The opportunity to carry the message to another person, something that has been freely passed on to us. At this time we may have to question ourselves, have we got the facts right in our own heads? Should we read those paragraphs in the Big Book again just to make sure? Are we passing on the same message that is written in those first 164 pages? This is special stuff, we may make light hearted comments to put people at ease but this time together, Sponsor and Sponsee is something we take very seriously. Working The Steps has changed our lives beyond anything we ever dreamed of. We can read "The Promises" and reflect on this. Then we are both ready we start, sharing another journey which can lead to sobriety and the amazing life where, "we have ceased fighting anything and anyone-even alcohol." (BB p.84)

We start to practice these principles in all our affairs. For me the word that stands out in that sentence is practice on a daily basis. Like anyone trying to learn something new practice is constantly needed but in AA it can also be coupled with that wonderful phrase "progress not perfection."
