The Gift of Desperation

I first came to AA when I was living in America, and I didn’t know what to expect. I just knew I was done with alcohol and I had no hope of stopping or finding any kind of solution on my own. I looked around at meetings and saw people who were spiritually alive, physically far healthier than I was living happy, useful lives. I wanted what they had, and I was willing to do anything to get it. This is what they call the gift of desperation.
