West Riding Intergroup News

This page is for news about West Riding Intergroup, and for information which may be of use to home groups.
The next West Riding Intergroup meeting is on Sunday 26th January 2020 at
Unity Hall, 2 Commercial Street, Morley, Leeds, LS27 8HY at 10am.

Service opportunities in WRIG
Doing service is a great way of carrying the message to the suffering alcoholic and protecting your own sobriety. There are service opportunities at Intergroup level which will help you and also give you an interesting insight into how AA works above the level of individual meetings. Vacancies which exist now or which will come up in the next few months include treasurer, probation liaison, literature rep, armed forces liaison, regional rep, mini-convention convenor, and electronic communications liaison. If you think you could help with any of these roles, please contact your GSR. You would be supported and sponsored into any role.

Prison Service

There are four prisons in the WRIG area - Leeds HMP (Armley), New Hall HMP (near Wakefield), Wakefield HMP & Wealstun HMP (near Wetherby).

The WRIG Prison Service is a wonderful, small, dedicated and committed team providing inmates with regular AA meetings, which are rewarding and have a real impact.

Projects for 2020:

1.Recruit 4 - 8 fabulous lead facilitators for the prison service:

We have an urgent need for people approaching three years of sobriety, or more, to facilitate meetings at:

?      Leeds HMP (Armley) on Mondays (13:30 - 15:00)

?      Wealstun HMP (Wetherby) on Tuesdays (13:30 - 15:00)

?      Wakefield HMP (next to train station) on Thursdays (14:00 - 16:00)

2.Reinstate regular meetings at Wakefield HMP:

We??re delighted that Wakefield HMP have agreed for us to facilitate regular meetings again starting on Thursday 19th March 2020. We??d like to recruit some lead facilitators in order to have regular meetings.

3. Create libraries of AA literature:

We would like to create small libraries of AA literature at each prison, to be held in the rooms where the meetings take place.

We would be extremely grateful if home groups could donate copies of AA literature.

West Riding Intergroup of AA Guiding Principles

What is West Riding Intergroup?

An Intergroup consists of an unspecified number of groups who have decided to affiliate. Its geographical boundaries are determined by local needs and experience as agreed by the constituent groups. Something like twenty five has been suggested as a good workable number. Since its establishment, both the geographical area of WRIG and the number of member groups has varied considerably and may well do so in the future.
