Help for Newcomers

Newcmers to AA may receive help in a number of ways.

Telephone

Our National Helpline number is 0800 9177 650. This number is free from a landline or a mobile phone. Responders who live in Scotland answer the phones on a 24-hour basis. This is not always so in other parts of GB.

When you ring this from a landline, you should be connected to a member of AA who lives in Scotland. That person should be able to put you in contact with a member who lives near you and who knows the meetings you might go to.

If you ring this number from a mobile phone, the person who responds may be anywhere in Great Britain, and may not know local contacts. You will still receive assistance and any questions about AA will be answered.

If you want to speak to someone locally, then call 0131 225 2727 . The call, however, may not be free.

Email

If you want to ask AA for help by email, then write to this address:

help@aamail.org

Most times you will be answered within 15 minutes; but if you write late at night, then the response may not come until morning.

Chat

If you would like to chat (through your keyboard) with a member of AA, then visit this page of our website:

If a responder is on duty, then you will be invited to start a chat by giving your first name,
