Wiltshire Intergroup News

  • Introduction: Wiltshire Intergroup met at Corsham on Sunday 2nd July. The meeting was moderately well attended considering the beautiful weather.
•Intergroup Officer Vacancies: The following vacancies exist, and Groups are asked to seek volunteers now to fill them, with nominations to be made at the next Intergroup in October:
    oSecretary – vacant from October.
    oRegional Rep – vacant now.
    oTreasurer – vacant now.
oSchools Liaison Officer – vacant from September.
    oArchivist – vacant now.
oEmployment Liaison Officer – vacant now.
(Details can be found in the AA Structure Handbook for Great Britain 2017, pages 88-90.)
•Other Opportunities for Service: Many opportunities exist for service outside of ‘recognised’ Intergroup posts; these should be also put to your Group:
oTelephone responders and 12th Steppers for the Telephone Service
oSchools co-ordinators & Speakers at Schools events.
oRegional Officers posts – Region Chair and Alternate Delegate.
    • Forthcoming Events:
oNext Wiltshire Intergroup – Sunday 8th October 2017 at Corsham.  A fuller representation both by Intergroup Officers and GSRs is hoped for, especially as this meeting will include the Intergroup Conscience.
oSeminar for Professionals – Chippenham Town Hall, 27th September – you may be asked to invite professionals to attend, and you may be asked to assist.
•Workshop on Service. A Workshop on Telephone Service and its 12th Step support was held during the lunch break at the Moonraker convention in May.
•Questions for Conference – Groups (and indeed individuals) are encouraged to submit Questions for Conference direct to GSO.
•Telephone Service: Despite repeated, regular and urgent requests for assistance from Groups, the Telephone Service remains undermanned.   Tradition 5 clearly states: “Each Group has but one Primary Purpose – to carry its message to the alcoholic who still suffers.”   The Telephone Service and its 12th Step backup is perhaps the single most effective means of carrying the message – yet it continues to struggle from a lack of support.   Please take this to heart, convey this message to your Groups, identify volunteers and help through these actions to achieve your primary purpose.  Without telephone responders and a full geographical spread of available 12th Steppers, those suffering alcoholics who seek help may not receive it.  “You have to give it away to keep it”.
