National Advertising Campaign 1st – 4th July 2024

On Monday 1st July AAGB is launching its first national poster site campaign. Long ago it was decided that we should be Alcoholics Anonymous, not Alcoholics Invisible, and we look to carry our message of recovery to all who may need it.

The campaign will appear on digital billboards across GB provided by JCDecaux as part of their Community Channel program. The first outing for the campaign is during Alcohol Awareness Week, then running in two subsequent one-week bursts in Oct and Dec, culminating with a five-week run between Boxing Day and 31st January 2025.

The campaign consists of 30 different word-only digital posters. Each headline contains two A’s which are prominently featured by blurring the other letters. ‘It’s intended to be a visual interpretation of life through alcoholic eyes, with the two in focus ‘A’s representing the clarity the organisation can provide to help sobriety’, explained Pete Cain at The Raised Eyebrow Society, who created the campaign.

Perhaps intriguingly, the posters do not include the AA logo. Alcoholics Anonymous has a tradition of “attraction rather than promotion”, so the campaign was developed with that in mind. We believe the target audience will understand that the two ‘A’s refer to Alcoholics Anonymous, given the context of the messages.
