Editorial

The latest edition (2017/2018) of the Fellowship publication 'Intergroup and Regional Officers Great Britain & Continental Europe' has now been distributed. Commonly referred to as the 'Confidential Directory', this is for the use of intergroup and regional officers to facilitate speedy intercommunications.

Aside from the Continental Europe entries and details of board and board sub-committee members the book lists all 120 intergroups and 15 regions in the UK. Each intergroup entry lists 16 service posts and should give the full contact details for each of the persons occupying these posts. Each region entry lists 15 service posts and should carry the same personal details.

A brief flick through this document shows the word 'Vacant' appearing with an astonishing regularity. A page by page examination reveals quite a sorry situation - and not a new situation at that. There is not a single intergroup or region in the UK with a name against every service post. Some assemblies have scarcely filled any post!

The Fellowship continues to do sterling work in taking our message to the greater community. We take AA to the public, prisons, hospitals, courts, employers, armed services, many more and anywhere else we may be asked. This work is vital and potentially lifesaving. Every commitment is met and our input is genuinely appreciated and welcomed. All this work continues to be undertaken by just a dedicated few.

How often do we hear someone say at a meeting "I don't know how I can ever repay the Fellowship for the life I have now"? The answer is so simple. Get involved in service beyond the home group. Visit your intergroup and just listen to how much needs done, how much gets done and how few there are getting it done.

Your intergroup and your region need YOU
