This is the month during which the Fellowship recognises our anniversary on 10 June by observing our annual Gratitude Week. This is when the Fellowship invites each and every group to ask its members (but only those with the means to do so) to express their gratitude for sobriety by contributing financially to an extra ‘pot’ separate to that used for observance of our Seventh Tradition. Monies so collected are forwarded separately to General Service Office and specifically identified as Gratitude Week donations. All groups have already been lettered with administration details.
All Gratitude Week monies will go solely and directly to helping the still-suffering alcoholic. The General Service Board are required to plan projects having been so tasked by our annual Conference and these projects can carry a very significant cost. Our Gratitude Week collections go directly towards the funding of these projects.
Many members of our Fellowship, though, eschew commitment to a home group and may possibly be unaware of this special collection being undertaken. That is not to say such persons would baulk at any request to contribute.
Whilst the covering letter sent to groups invites members of the Fellowship to contribute to the Gratitude Week ‘pot’ through their home group, there is nothing to prevent individual groups making an announcement about and explanation of Gratitude Week and inviting those present, who are not affiliated to a home group, to contribute too.
This simple act should help to ensure that no member of our Fellowship is deprived the opportunity of sharing in this special opportunity, expressing personal thanks for their sobriety and showing their commitment to our primary purpose... ‘to stay sober and help other alcoholics achieve sobriety’.
