EIG Who to Contact

All service positions require 2 or 3 years sobriety and are for a period of 3 years with the exception of the Archivist, which has no defined period

For full service position information read the AA Structure Handbook - the following is a brief summary of each position

Chair
The Chair has the responsibility of convening and conducting the meetings, and approving the agenda and minutes before they are published. The chair will carry the executive authority of intergroup but should account for any action taken at the next meeting

Vice Chair
The Vice Chair has the responsibility for conducting intergroup meetings and attending regional Chair meetings in the absence of the Chair. The Vice Chair should attend any pre or post intergroup meetings. In the absence of the Secretary they should record brief minutes of any meetings and help in the preparation of a meeting agenda. The Vice Chair should ensure the accuracy of information held in the Confidential Directory. They maintain email address data for all intergroup officers and should regularly check the email account of any vacant positions and respond as required.

Secretary
The Secretary has the responsibility with the Chair for preparing the agenda and minutes of meetings and for distributing these documents to the groups well before meetings so that there is ample time to discuss the contents. The Secretary deals with all correspondence, passing for example requests for speakers to outside organisations to the Public Information Officer or a suitable member. The Secretary keeps in touch with the General Service Office making sure that it promptly has a copy of the minutes and notice of any change of officer

Treasurer
The Treasurer has the responsibility for keeping a proper account of all intergroup finances and ensuring that funds are available for its essential current requirements. An annual budget exercise should be carried out to ensure that appropriate prudent reserves are maintained. The Treasurer reports to intergroup against the budget. Surplus funds should always be transferred promptly to GSO, ideally via the region treasurer.

Prison Liaison Officer
A Prison Liaison Officer should gather and collate all information about the prison groups in their area (including open prisons, Young Offenders Institutions etc.) and forward the information to their regions and to GSO. The PLO also assists with facilitating a weekly AA meeting at HMP Chelmsford with the help of other AA members.

Public Information Officer
A Public Information Officer is responsible for ensuring that information about the AA message and programme of recovery is conveyed to outside organisations to the best possible advantage. The provision of a panel of members to comply with requests for speakers is an important part of this activity

Health Liaison Officer
A Health Liaison Officer is responsible for establishing links with health professionals and co-ordinating all aspects of carrying the message within the healthcare system

Employment Liaison Officer
An Employment Liaison Officer assumes responsibility for liaising with all sectors of commerce and industry

Probation Liaison Officer
A Probation Liaison Officer is responsible for establishing links with the probation services in England and Wales

Share/Literature Liaison Officer
SHARE/Literature Liaison Officers provide the essential contacts between members, groups and the editorial teams. They actively encourage the contribution of articles and letters and the promotion of the magazines

Telephone Liaison Officer
A Telephone Liaison Officer co-ordinates the working of the Telephone Service

Electronic Communications Liaison Officer
The ECLO is responsible for producing and checking the accuracy of any local information posted on the website such as a list of venues of meetings, dates of intergroup meetings and various GSO contacts and link. They maintain email address data for all groups in intergroup and prior to each intergroup will distribute a group form for completion and afterwards collate the returns and produce a quarterly group summary and forward to the telephone service any 12 stepper or responder information detailed.

Armed Services Liaison Officer
An Armed Services Liaison Officer is responsible for establishing local links with the Royal Navy, the Army, the Royal Air Force and any other organisation that is connected with the Armed Services

Young Persons Liaison Officer
The YPLO will be someone who came into AA at the age of 30 or younger, and so will have experience of getting sober at a young age, the better to relate to the particular problems faced by young people seeking to live sober. They will work closely with other service officers, in particular those in Public Information.

Archivist
Archivists are an informal network of enthusiasts who share the same aim of preserving the Fellowship's past and ensuring that fact prevails over fiction or myth. This network exists outside the formal service structure of the Fellowship but runs parallel to it.

Regional representative will attend all intergroup meetings to report back from the region and to hear from the intergroup their wishes to be expressed at the next regional meeting.
